I was installing my door panels today and have run into another glitch. The upper hole on the wood I bought doesn’t line up :( with the upper mounting point for the hand grip on the arm rest. In fact it’s back about a full inch ! I have bent the grip back far enough to just barely cover the hole with the back edge and am considering drilling a new hole about a half inch in front of the incorrect hole. Are there 2 different hole locations in different year coupes or possibly do I have the wrong arm rests like out of a Bavaria or something ? I can’t figure this out because the arm rests fit my original wood fine even though it was in pretty poor condition. My coupe is a 72. ~ John Buchtenkirch

On mine the long side goes rearward on the top bracket. Yours is pointed forward.

There should be 2 1/2 inches between ashtray and plastic base, just under 2 inches between same and quarter window knob. Is wood and arm rest original to your coupe? Makes me wonder if wood came from 2000CS? They have different arm rests. Hope this helps.

Well ----- feeling pretty stupid right about now :oops::oops:. I had the top pieces reversed side to side. Switched them & it went right together. Thank God I wrote in before pulling out the drill  . BIG THANKS ~ John Buchtenkirch

Tip- the length of that screw is important so as to not scratch the glass if by chance it's not the original one.
