Not sure I agree with his complete list but I agree with his number one pick. :) He lumps our e9s with 2002s but does say some good things about our cars.

The Z4M Coupe should be on the list, such an unknown gem. At least the Z3M Coupe was mentioned. Interesting that an X5 was selected. The tii should also have made the list, or at least honorable mention.

Happy to see some love for the e39. I posted on BAT just the other day that I'll never sell mine, even if it is a lowly sport 540.

E83 X3 6-speed 2004-2010 are much better than the X5.
E36 M3, best BMW I've ever owned still do.
E9 agree with him beautiful elegant.
2002 put BMW on the map, this guy needs to learn this.
M2CS, um yeah...very limited edition like the 2011 "One M"
E30 M3 are fun, this is why I bought an E28 M5.
E39s I get it.

Honorable mention Z4 M & 3.0 Coupe, makes my Dinan E36 M3 feel like a truck.
My true love of BMWs I want to own ended in 2007.

Not only did the 2002 put BMW on the map, it, combined with the Herbert Quandt (fairly unsavory WWII history) investment, probably saved BMW as an independent company.
About the time the 2002 was introduced, the bank account was in terrible shape and that stronger automotive company over in Stuttgart was licking it's chops for an acquisition.

i am in total agreement with Rob on his first 5. if i went to 10, then the z3m coupe + z4m would be there as would the other versions of the e9 and 2002 if i had a 4 door bmw on the list, it might be the e28 m5

The Quandt deal was in 1959 & financed the 700 which led to the Nue Klasse cars in 1962 which truly saved BMW. The 1600-2, & eventual 2002 in 1968 in conjunction with David E. Davis' "Turn your Hymnals" review helped put BMW on the map in the US.

my list wouldn't include any four-doors.

1) 1956-1960 507
2) 1978-1981 M1
3) 1973-75 E9 CSL (Batmobile version)
4) 1990 M3 Sport Evolution
5) 1974 2002 Turbo
6) 2020 M8 CS

I would put touring 325iX E30 (5-door) on it as first mass production 4x4 BMW after WW2. :p

Of course I'm partial to classics but GD! This sucker looks sexy ass heck!

Except for the black boomerang on the side it looks just like a Mustang from the side profile. I thing the Mustang has a cleaner design.

Where was the E38 7er? the 750i should be there as the best looking exec limo in history. Yes I'm thinking about that too..... maybe the merc 600 comes closest? Or perhaps the original 60s quatroporte?

My list is easy to fill out...the three I currently own
1. 1972 3.0 csi
2. 2007 Z4 M coupe
3. 2013 M3 Lime Rock Park Edition
And the next two I’m able to convince my wife to let me buy, assuming I live that long.
4. 2002 tii?
5. Z3 M coupe?

An 18 minute word salad. The guy loves sound of his own voice. 2002’s are “amazingly underpowered by modern standards.” What a brilliant observation. Who knew?

Agree, and the sound gets more irritating each year.

I'm a big fan of the short wheel base version of the e38 740i.

Surprised to see so little love for pre-war BMW’s. AFAIK, no BMW produced in the last 20 years has been of any historical importance.
