My coupe left the factory as the "PETA edition". No leather used in any part of the car (they did miss the seat horse hairs though...).

To fix that I got a nice Spanish leather shifter console restored by DQ (Thanks!) and I just did the install.
Huge improvement from the butchered vinyl version I had.

1) Line up all essentials for the project.

2) Visualize old vs. new so you do not end up reinstalling the old one.

3) Yank switches to start removal. No need to write down how they are wired.

4) Look at the color of the non-exposed wood. It was a darker world in 1972.
Lift the wood and explore, I found my missing lighter there. If you have a Euro car you may find the phone number of Inge in Munich for example.

5) Remove sleeve from lighter female to extract, chance to apply contact cleaner.

6) Mount wiper and lighter gadgets.

7) Run the wires and connect to switches.

8) The cuban coffee must be boiling by now.

Lost parts: One of the mounting screws disappeared into a blackhole.
Unexplained leftover parts: None except the old vinyl console.
To do: Find a nice leather wrapped or wood shifter. The plastic one is very loose. Figure out how to rotate the wiper knob legend.

Nicely done. If you want to get rid of your old crappy vinyl shifter console, I may be interested.

I was planning to send it to DQ and do another one if the wood condition allows.

congrats, you did a good use of it,
ps, i love the line up of the essentials, that detail puts this thread on top of the more boring and conventional DQ's DIY threads:smile:

Darn it,not one photo with your greasy paws? Very disappointed Arde with your photo skills!
Nice looking finished product.
