All Brass, says VDO on the side.
 
Thanks Markos.....since there is no wiring does it work like that butterball turkey thing, pop out when the temp is too high? Fairly costly to be used as a drain plug. This resto reveals multiple surprises.
 
A wire to the temp gauge attaches to the center pole. I had one but the oil measures too cold in that location so I abandoned it.
 
I drilled and tapped a hole in the boss on the side of the oil filter housing for my sensor. The VDO sender fits perfectly.
