Driver quality e9 on BAT

Fairly solid looking base with some nice mods to it. Although guaranteed crispiness awaits any buyer in the lower a post, i'd stick a set of 14" alpinas on that, some new wood from bela, and drive the crap outta that for a few years before tearing it down to restore.

If anyone is a nonbeliever of the migrating inner fender phenomenon, ask yourself where this dent in the sound deadening comes from. Obligatory hood alignment photo included.

Having been alerted to this by Markos, some time ago, with some great photo references, it really is scary to see cars listed, that look nice enough, but show this tell tale symptom of catastrophic fender implosion. What a surprise for the new owner. Yikes!

The hood was closed over a forgotten tool... ;-)

Does that look like Tundra Metallic, the original "green" color, in photo 111?

Meh. I definitely don’t think it is catastrophic. Just another e9 something something to know and look out for
when buying. You could likely drive it like this fir another 50 years. There are many far more expensive e9’s that cycled through bat with said

I remember seeing what I believe was this car driving around town but the owner never wanted to get together despite my courteous attempts at arranging such.. :( A lot of special effects on those pics too.

OK, I may have been overwhelmed by the extremely large red arrow. I am feeling better now. ;)

can you attach a link to where you talk about what caused this?

I’ve brought it up a few times. I’ve only observed the issue. I don’t understand root cause. There are two places that rub. The center of the fender peak, and a bit more aft where the shock tower recess starts on the hood (as seen above).

when I got my car the hood was kluged to close properly. I later found during prep for total repaint it had been in at least one fender bender. Tt was so bad the PO had cut the black latch (on the hood) to make it short enough to be pulled closed.
All that was fixed... $$$

That's a lot of coin for a rig that needs rocker/floor pan work. Not to mention the cracked dash vinyls.

I'd rather have this for $20k less:

HAHA... that's my car!. i thought this picture looked familiar. both sides of the fender supports were gone along with some missing inner fender structural supports. i also replaced entire rockers on both sides an 3/4 of the floor pan.

You mean you're the current owner that just sold it for $64.5k!?!?

If so, you made out well dood.

Bought my car on bat couple years ago. Still working on it. This is a current picture of the same tower

I'm so confused.
@Markos used several photos from his archive to demonstrate a hood indentation phenomenon. None of them were the car for sale, but exhibited something he saw on the BaT car. @Bosozoku 's car was one of the demonstrative photos, and he recognized the photo of his car from when he bought it a couple of years ago. Make sense now?

Thanks for sharing. The exercise wasn’t a “look at these problem cars” photo expose. It was to show a pattern. Your comments on the areas that can’t be seen help to identify potential root cause. Your transparency is greatly appreciated!

Incidentally there are two bump spots. The first is the peak of the tower hitting the center of the hood recess. The second is the leading edge of the hood recess hitting a bit lower on the fender. The car that just sold on BaT was scenario 2.
