Driver side mirror removal?

I hate to ask this question but how do you remove the driver side mirror? I don't see any mounting bolts on the opposite side of the door panel (removed). And the only other possibility is a small slot on the front of the mirror pedestal.

There is a small screw in the mirror that runs parallel to the plane of the door. It is normally
covered by a rubber lip. Remove the rubber, loosen the screw, that will separate the mirror
from a funny holding piece that keeps it tight. No mounting bolts on the inside of the door, all the action takes place from outside the door.

Thanks. Now I looked at it today and that screw is rusted on pretty good. CW would say drill the head off but if it is anchored in ther like I think it is that will only create more problems. Whats the best way to get this thing off?

that screw likes to get real tight.

BTDT. As I recall the screw is steel, in a pot metal(?) mirror base. Anyway, they rust in there pretty tight.

You're gonna have to use all the usual/typical tricks for tight screws, these would be to soak it in Kroil or PBlaster; put the screwdriver on it and give it some impacts to jar the rust loose. I can't imagine a useful heat solution that wouldn't damage the mirror/door gasket. Best is just get the max screwdriver in there that fits, and put the necessary torque on it after a few sharp whacks.

And, of course, some antisieze when the mirror goes back on!
