I attempted to install my emergency brake cables today and ran into yet another problem. The cast or forged ends that actually acts as the dead-man for the E-brake shoes isn’t on the new cables. I could cut the end off my old cables and sandwich the new cable’s end between the backing plate and that end because in all other respects the 2 cables seem the same. However before I get involved doing that I would like to know do I just have the wrong cables (they are part # 34 41 1 118 578 or are the 2 new ones I have all that’s available anymore ?? THANKS ~ John Buchtenkirch

John, they are the correct cables. You will need the other pieces you describe. The new system consist of two parts (cable assembly & bracket). I just received my new set last week. The part number for the "dead-man", as you call it, is: 34 41 1 115 222, same for both sides.

Sven, BIG THANKS on that one, it’s always easier to call the dealer when you know what you are talking about. Could you post a few photos of that piece, If it’s going to be a 3 week wait from Germany I’m very tempted to modify my original cable ends to work. The nicest weather of the year on Long Island will soon be here (not counting the hurricanes) and I’m really hoping to get this coupe on the road in September to enjoy some of it. Could get snow & salted roads as early as Thanksgiving so I’ve got to get on the road soon or maybe just burn out trying. ~ John Buchtenkirch

The pieces sandwich the 1/4" hub mounting bracket The cable flange is on the inside and the block piece on the outside. You may be able to cut off the existing block to use with the cable. I considered it.
