driveline
re: driveline
At the time I did it I couldn't find a competent source to give me
accurate info on the torque rating of the differential. Everyone said
just use a unit from a M5, I couldn't find one at a reasonable price
and still the torque capacity was an unknown. So I just used a diff
from a Jag XKE, it is actually made by Dana and it has a 8.5" ring gear
and every ratio available you could want. These units have proven
themselves for years under high hp conditions. But now in retrospect, and
having seen some high hp turbo bmw 6's used with the M5 diff I would
just replace the whole subframe/susp/diff assemble with one from a
large case E28 M5. The trans is a GM based aftermarket unit made by
Tremec, mine is the (TKO 500 ) mdl -- light weight, strong & smooth !
The drive shaft is a heavy duty one piece type. My mtr weighs 420lb an
M30 dressed weighs more than that and my mtr is shorter, which improved the weight distribution.
