e21 Recaro seat question

Does anyone know if the seat (not the mounting rails) for e21 sport seats and e30 sport seats (Recaros) are the same dimensions?

In other words, will the seat cover for an e30 fit the e21 recaros I plan on bolting in??

There may have been some E30s that got Recaro seats somewhere else in the world, but in the US E30 sport seats are not Recaros. E30 sport seats parts are not interchangeable with E21 Recaros.

I think World Upholstery has upholstery for E21 Recaros. I know Aardvark recovers them. There are probably other sources.

e30 sport seats

i concur that the e30 sport seats are NOT recaro. similar, but more comfortable and adjustable. but it will take some cutting / changing to the brackets to mount them to an e9 / e3 / 2002. they are also wider than the e21 seats. if anybody knows what it would take to put them into an e9 i would like to know ... they are some of the most comfortable bmw seats i've had.

The E30 seats bolt to the floor. Short answer is that you need to remove the E9 seat mounts and reinforce the floor.

Look at the 2002FAQ website. There is a FAQ on seats there and also a number of people have installed the seats over the years.

If you are short, like 5'6" or less, I have seen cars where they hung seat mounts from the existing brackets. This didn't look very sturdy to me.
