E28 front & rear window motors for conversion

Hello all
I am curious to know what needs to be done to the actual motor from e28 in order to work and fit properly for the e9's
I know is a huge improvement and now that I fitted the old motors on the my e9 I see now the stock motors are tired although they go up and down without any problem but I can have access to have them replaced as we speak

Feb/Mar 73 and on have improved motors, do you have two circuit breakers under the dash? If so they bolt right in. If you have earlier sardine can motors it takes a few simple mods to the regulator. See Technical articles from the Home page, not the Forum page.

My car is a late 73 and it does not have the sardine can motors so I am assuming that the motors I have are the ones with the improvement

Yes. They have a black plastic cover/case and the e28 do not, otherwise almost identical. Cleaning the tracks to remove the old grease is the real issue, the motors can’t be much different and I’ve had both. Just cleaned my rear window assemblies as they were removed for my repaint and can’t be done in the car and I didn’t bother installing e28 motors in the rear even though I have a spare set.

Here is picture of my front and rear motor
I did the full maintenance on all of them and they were basically pulled apart every single part and and a new grease was applied and trust me they work fine but I though that there was an other type of motor that can be used but in this case I won't bother anymore as mines are working just perfect

If you are looking for faster operation, and already have the newer design motors and cleaned tracks, there's still one other thing you can do. Adding relays will eliminate the voltage drop through the long wires, connectors and switches. Before I changed to e28 motors, I added relays to the window circuits, and they improved the performance of my "sardine can" motors.

I will certainly do that on mine and put the relays and see how it goes but I am sure it is going to be faster
