Hello,

I know there are a few of you that have done this. I have collected most of the parts and am just about ready to go, but I have two questions:

1. Does the new subframe/crossmember bushings bolt right up to the body, ir do they need to be adapted in some way? I've heard conflicting info on this, and wanted to know before I pulled the car apart and took it out of commission.

2. Rear shock/spring combo: Is the E28 spring/shock combo the right length, or would a coil-over or longer spring work better?

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

E28 Subframe Swap

Yes: Ping in San Luis Obispo had this (front and rear suspension as I recall) M5 swap completed at the same time as his S38 motor swap. This was at least 10 years ago.

Probably more like 20 years. I first saw Tsao Ping's S38 modified CS probably back around 1990.

The Franken Bav that raced in the Targa Newfoundland and won twice . . . had a full E28 M5 suspension installed.

Front requires frame rail modifications as width is different and you need to provide support for the thrust bushings. IRC, (we serviced and sponsored this car and hence had it semi apart twice) the rear subframe bolts in place. Rear differeintail suport requires soime additional fabrication. The challenge is that the E28 is a coil over design and the CS E9 is not and the E9 shock locations can't take the load of a coil over suspension w/o reinforcement.

Bill Arnold built the Franken Bav, and a shop in CA did the fabrication.
