E3 crash tests

Really nice! Especially prior-crash detonations or charge releases used in 60's to speed up the cars.

Conclusion: orange Bimmers are prone to accidents (at least in Munich area).

Err....I feel much better now loaning my son the E3 for a while.... sorta ;)

Haven't seen these ones before Mike.

Years ago I was in a traffic school class for a ticket and saw a Bav in a traffic safety film, seat belt feature I think with a grinning live driver. I wonder if THAT is on Youtube somewhere?

Thanks for your posting!

This reminds me of a movie on E3 crash safety I watched at a BMW dealer in 1971 while my dad was working out a deal on ordering a 1972 Bavaria. I was 13 at the time and was impressed with BMW design and engineering. Anyway, the dealership had what was probably an 8mm movie film you could watch that projected onto a small screen. I seem to recall it looking very similar to this one, but it also showed the E3 being suspended and then dropped on its roof.

I'd rather say: in Berlin. There should be at least two more clips on YT featuring the E3 and the four door Neue Klasse, respectively. It is said BMW hired Prof. Ernst Fiala, then at the Technische Universität Berlin, to carry out several safety experiments. Most of them seem to have taken place in 1967 & 68 at the infield of the Avus race course located in the south-west corner of Berlin.
