I'm afraid this one is toast. This much rust might still make an E9 a candidate for an (expensive) restoration, but not an E3.

It would be very difficult to get the $4,000 purchase price back from parting out this car.

I buy cars from private parties daily and I learned a long time ago that an asking price only matters if it's in your favor, otherwise it means nothing. Someone will submit a car asking $5000 and I end up buying it for $700 because they really don't know the value. In this case, $4000 might be a "I'll put that out there and see what happens" but after a month or two it sells for $1200.

Sad, this car was once upon a time somebody's baby. AC and automatic, not the quickest rabbit in the hutch. But still, what a daily driver it was.

Right, Dick, it's toast. Well, Burnt Toast.

Is it worth $500. to some one close and needs parts or wants to share? Not me of course.
