I finally decided to put new hood support ends onto my hood support as the others were internally worn-out. Do you need to preload the two rods going through the tube so that it will support the hood in both the open and closed positions? I couldn't find anything about this in the factory shop manuals for E3's that I have.

I'm finally completing my 2800 Bavaria that was Alpina modified by the first owner through Mike Dietel. It now has a 3.9L fuel injected engine with a 265-5 close-ratio 5-speed and a 3.45 limited slip with the european 635csi oil cooler! A few flaws, but it has not been registered since 1992 and is going to be fun to get back on the road!

As a follow-up, I had put the two new ends on my hood support mechanicm and installed it. The preload was there, I had just put it in ass backwards! So, switched it around and it works perfectly. I also put some teflon washers between the strut, body mount and nuts/bolts holding it together, and it is so smooth and quiet now!
