Maybe by then they realized they’re uselessIt does seem strange to me that the Si does not have Allen Wrenches while the e9 and 3.0 e3s do.
Actually, the foam and tray I have is the same as shown above in Christoph's photos. I have seen tools rust like that too.I would be interested in the foam piece if it is the same as the one in this picture (69 E3). As you can see, I need to do some rust removal on the tools…

Right you are. Imagine the owner of an E3, upper class car, in Europe it was, albeit the most compact one, using any of the tools. Impossible.Maybe by then they realized they’re useless
Economic reasons. The first version was the most expensive, the one-piece with the spark plugs a lot less, and deleting the spark plugs, feeler gauges, Allen wrenches and so on helped even more. The whole E3 range went from early to late boxes. All late cars got the less opulent box, no matter what model. In the USA the 3.0 Si appeared quite late and very well-equipped but so did the 3.3 Li in other countries. I fear nobody spared a thought the toolbox might not be appropriate for these cars. If I remember correctly, the highly-exclusive 3.3 L, first of the LWB E3, got all three toolboxes in succession, just like every ordinary (ordinary?) 3.0 S & 3.0 Si.It does seem strange to me that the Si does not have Allen Wrenches while the e9 and 3.0 e3s do.
