I found a site that seems to list a huge number of paint colors from all manufacturers. It even has BMWs older colors missing from most paint chips such as Bristol or Tampico.

There are also links to the formulas from various paint makers. Can't vouch for the accuracy of their mix though. There's a link on the left of each paint color for Google, Bing or Yahoo searches for photos of cars painted with that color.

Ian: Interesting chart. Baikal blue has 2 different BMW paint codes (588 and 042) but the same code from all aftermarket paint suppliers. This may help explain the variations in Baikal that we see on so many repaints.

In the parts book BMW also has a res number which is four digits, kinda like a part number I think.
