E9 Colors

The old CS Registry had a link to a matrix of colors that I thought was pretty neat but we don't have it anymore. Perhaps Steve remembers and can find it?

If you go to the German e9 club website they have the color charts posted for various years:

http://www.bmw-coupeclub.de/Prospekte/Prospekte.htm

click on the "Prospekte Farben und Preise" link and scroll down to the color charts. We should upload these to this site. This is from 1/1972:

Huh, I thought they were all there (albeit some on 2002s) - what's missing? In any event I found it better to look at the colors on pictures of cars rather than just swatches - then when narrowing things down to find pics of cars in the colors I was considering and narrow them down that way. I guess I have a hard time extrapolating from a swatch to the full car.

try this

I found most of the E9 colors on this site.

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/default.aspx

If you search BMW 1973 (the year of my car) you'll find several pages from what looks like an old manufacturer's book. For some unknown reason, there is a British Leyland - BLMC - page in the middle of the BMW colors?? The BMW names are English translations of the German names. For instance, Nachtblau is Night Blue.

On a side note, I found a mixing formula for Nachtblau from Glasurit but my painter uses PPG base/clear and when we plugged the Nachtblau PPG code into the paint store computer, it shows discontinued. I've got the fuel filler cap and removed the sticker from the inside. That paint should be virgin Nachtblau so we're going to scan it to come up with a formula and then shoot sample panels.

rb,

There is no Tundra, Nachtblau, Amazonasgrun or Jadegrun and not all of the 2002 colors were available on a coupe. Great for checking modern colors though.

Chris

Chris-

You're right - embarrassing for me, considering Nachtblau is in my opinion one of the best looking colors on the coupe.

Kwyjibo,

The table in question is not specific to a year and some coupe colors are only shown on a 2002. Nachtblau was available in '72 but Amazon and Jade were '74 and on I believe. Mike G has a '74 in Jade.

TCPGlobal is a great resource don't think it's 100% accurate either.

Nachtblau is a metallic color--whereas--

Single stage paint colors are much easier to deal with when matching is needed or touch up is required.

I've owned both Nachtblau and Atlantik Blau Coupes--now after 40 years of continuous E-9 ownership my vote goes to Atlantik Blau--the color of BLUMAX as well as my 2002--LTLBLU2. And many people who regularly attend Cars 'n Coffee at Irvines weekly gathering of special cars have shared my view on the choice of that color.

hi chris,
not trying to argue with you, and my german is not what it used to be, but i believe that is a page from a pamphlet that shows the available interiors and exterior colors for 1972. also, nachtblau is on that page - bottom, right corner swatch (that on my computer looks black).

Night Blue

I just bought a Night Blue 74 that was sitting in a garage for 22 years. Here are a few photos to show color. It's dirty and hasn't even been washed yet. Going through it from top to bottom. Will post when it's done. Should be a cool car.
