Hi guys
I have a 3.0CS, 1974, Amazon green color. But I have another 2 BMWs with a similar color (Agave green). So I want to change the color but using a color available for this year (1974) and the European version. What colors were available?

Alvaro

Agave was gone by 74, Amazonas and Jadegrun are the most common with Mintgrun being very rare, maybe never ordered for US coupes. All single stage.

Where can we find these colors? I’m dying to see Florida. Hot pink?

Florida is a pastel blue/green and was apparently available for a 2000CS, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen one; I bet it would be lovely.

See more information here:

I’m not sure that Colorado, Sahara, Verona and Riviera made it into 74.

Riviera made it to 1974. One sold on Bat about 12 months ago. Verified Riviera with build dates in the comments.

The yearly brochures have the color charts, but not all colors are listed. Mintgrun isn’t in the brochure. I would have to look at my PDF’s but I don’t think that Nevada, Taxi, or Bristol are ever shown in the early brochures.

I mentioned this in another post, but the ‘76 e3 also got phonix.

I think one problem with colors by year is that back then, BMW was not concerned with "model years" like we were (and are) in the US. Changes to the cars were running changes. Colors were added or dropped without reference to model year (since there wasn't such a thing).

My Bav was built July 19, 1971. It is a 3.0. It has been registered since new as a 1972. It has some (what we would consider) 1971 features like the body color rear panel and the argent metal dash strip. I asked Historischer Informationsdienst at BMW what "model year" my VIN would indicate. Their response was...

BMW didn't differentiate by model years at the time. At least not in the way it was done in the US. If I had to make a decision here I would tend to 1971 but it's not really relevant because there were no real differences between model years.

So what we call a 1972, primarily because of the 3.0, BMW (and others) may call a 1971.

All US BMWs do have a model year and DOT/EPA sticker. 72 was first year for 3.0 BAV in US and a July build date is consistent with first 72 US 3.0CS which was also July.

i have updated my lists with Chris' information on the 2000cs and put Riviera back in the '74 list

All US BMWs do have a model year and DOT/EPA sticker. 72 was first year for 3.0 BAV in US and a July build date is consistent with first 72 US 3.0CS which was also July.
That makes sense for DOT/EPA requirements. There has to be a line in the sand (or calendar ;)) for those items in order to insure compliance.
