E9 Diesel?

Working on a lead for one of those "car in a back yard" deals, he knows it's a BMW 1975 or 76 two door and apparently a Diesel. Would seem nearly impossible to be an e9? Maybe e12 6er? Working on pics... Probably covered in ticks.

No Diesel BMW engines in the 70s I think.
I have seen E12's in Uruguay with transplanted Toyota Diesel engines...
