Hi guys
I am wondering if someone would know if the Bmw e3 sill/ rocker trims will fit onto the e9 .
Just the chrome and rubber bit , not the complete outer sill / rocker cover as mine are missing and I have seen a few sets for sale for the e3 , but none for the e9
Thanks

good question that i don't have an answer to. in looking at realoem, i see 4 part numbers and 2 different sizes for each side - one 40 mm and one 60 mm ... and all for the same years.

the e9 molding is part number - 51131810559 and xx560
the e3 molding (40 mm) part number - 51131807157 and xx158
the e3 molding (60 mm) part number - 51131807593 and xx 594

the e9 and e3 molding is held on by clip - 51131807716, but there is a quantity difference 12 for the e9 and 18 for the e3

so without a direct comparisons side by side, its hard to say ... but i suspect the e3 trim is longer. since the e9 trim is NLA, it would be worth finding out if the e3 trim could be modified to work for the e9

Okay, thanks for checking,
I wonder if anyone has ever shortened an e3 one to make it work on an e9.
My car came with them missing so I can’t even look at one to figure it out o_O

I do think that they are a complete different system. E3 does not have a sill cover like E9 (at least on my 75 3.3L). They just have the molding, that is not the same as e9. Here is a dirty picture of the trim.

i remember that this was looked into ... but i thought the shape / size was a little different - the length is pretty similar
the part number is 51131839489 + xx490 ... the xx490 part is NLA. this is for e24 up to the 82 model.
there is a note that these are superseded by 51151885057 ... which is the part for the later model

the clip is 51131808841 which is different than the e9

what about the shape? can you post some pictures? and let us know if it is of the early or later trim

I don't think the trim ever changed On e9. They may have on e24.
Okay , thanks for showing the e3 trim pic earlier , it looks different/ wider than the e9 one alright, now that I could see it more clearly on your pic.

as i mentioned earlier in this thread, there were 2 sizes of the e3 trim - one 40 mm and one 60 mm (according to realoem). both seem bigger than the size of the e9 trim ... but i don't know how they measured it. 40mm is about 1.5" and 60 mm almost 2.25"
