I have sent the following e-mail to Frank Patek at the national office of the BMWCCA. I met Frank this summer when we were Class Hosts at Pebble Beach.

"Frank,

How do we go about getting our e9 group recognized by BMW? The old CS Register was recognized by the council and we have absorbed all of the former group's data and members and we have a much expanded registry. The former group is no longer even mentioned in the Roundel, but if you found the old website, it links to our current site. I am attaching a link to a discussion we had back in May with someone who helped get the original recognition.

Our site is www.e9coupe.com, my alias is HBChris in this post. I look forward to your response and will do whatever it takes to help make this happen. Thank you."

The included link to the post back in May documented what others before us did to make this happen. Lets see what the CCA has to say, stay tuned.

SIG Inclusion

As I mentioned on another post, I'm been pursuing this also. I've filled out the necessary form(s) and forwarded to Steve Johnson, a member here and fellow Coupe owner. He promised to get this added to the next Roundel agenda meeting. More to come.

Thanks Tod, I saw your post and I know Steve as well, just saw him on Saturday. I have mentioned this to Steve in the past as well. Based on what Roger did back in the day i think it involves more than just recognition in the Roundel. Maybe not, hope I'm wrong, but just in case I contacted Frank.

Tod,

Looks like Steve has the ball and is running with it, good job! It is on the Board's agenda to discuss tomorrow on their conference call.

good job Chris, i know Steve will get the job done ... he can be quite convincing. good guy too.

I'm a bit confused. Why was the name changed to Registry from Register? Who decided to change the name and why is it difficult to embrace the original name? Can we vote on this matter? I for one feel it is very important to be recognized by BMW.

Verde,

The name change is not really relevant any more, it happened before there was the Internet that brought members together. This application for recognition as a SIG will provide the recognition of our group as before while hopefully maintaining our use of the BMW logo and CS Register as approved initially.

What is a bit confusing and hopefully will be cleared up is that the CS Register was approved as an official club meaning by BWW's rules today would need by-laws, a board and voting members. A SIG does not need these items, just a purpose basically.

Remember, e9coupe.com was formed independent of the former CS Register but since that time we have been given their archived data and newsletters for use by members here. Lets see what happens tonight.

E9 roots

Correct, the site was started in response to some "questionable administrative actions" on the E9 Roadfly board which, I think, happened back in 2002. Since then, the site has grown from just a forum to include the archived data and newsletters from the CS Registry site and along with the independent Registry have expanded the site content nicely. Frankly, we're long overdue to be listed in Roundel. Hopefully, it will just be a formality.

Thank you Tod for getting our site recognized by BMWCCA as a Special Interest Group or SIG! And another thank you to Steve Johnson, Executive VP and Frank Patek, Executive Director for their support in this initiative. We will be listed in the Roundel with the other SIGs which will help raise awareness of our coupes and hopefully bring more owners and prospective owners into the fold. Thank you!

Chris
