Happy new year.
I am currently restoring a 1973 E9 CSI and need a electric sun roof cassette and was wondering could I use one from another BMW maybe a 3 or 5 series?
The easiest way to describe the situation is there is a hole in the roof and I need to fill it.
I use the word cassette to describe the whole sun roof, running gear, motor switches, everything.
Many thanks
There should be an expert on the forum.
Typically the roof skin needs to go off of course.
Roofs were made by company named Golde.
Similar mechanisms were used in Volvos, VWs... from the same era.
Some parts are aluminum and should survive.
the biggest issue is with the reinforcement which is welded to the inner roof structure.
Another: linkage - similar to VW T1/Volvo 2xx/...
I'm note sure how different the roof for E24 (early CS karmann models) are.
Sunroof Flaps can be found in the US or Holland from time to time.
Check also eBaykleinanzeigen in Germany.
You can also call to Cars by Linke or contact them over fb (if you have the account).
From the one side the sunroof is a nice thing which can increase the value of the car.
On the other it is a pain as they are leaking and the roof drainage coming into fenders (Rear/Front/Left/Right) are speeding up the corrosion in the E9.
My 73 w/ electric sunroof doesn't slide. Unzipping headliner reveals that motor spins, as does worm gear out of it but center gear in the drive does not. Looks like the worm gear is stripped. So, I need to source a motor and drive assembly. But I suspect that is only the start of my issues...
