E9 Sunroof

Does anyone recognise this sunroof in E9? I am looking for seals but the BMW E9 ones I have don’t fit. It’s a 1972 3.0 CSA UK delivered car that was imported into Australia in the late 1970’s. The sunroof is electric and has a central drive without cables, it doesn’t look at all like Goldie roof in my 2002, or any literature I can find on E9 sunroofs? Is it an aftermarket sunroof? if so it’s very well done and it’s clearly been in the car for a very long time. Interested if anyone can identify it and if so what type of seals I need. Can someone advise what the length and width of E9 sunroof opening is?

Thanks Fritzie what I have found is it’s a Hollandia steel sunroof and another member on forum has one installed by dealer when car was new in 1973. From what I have read they were quite common and installed on BMW, Jags Alfas & Mercs. Company is now called Westbato.

I recognize it! My 1974 has one. I resealed it in 2014 and I *think* I used a generic "P" profile rubber strip in order to do it. I think this is it:

It measures 28mm wide and the bulb is roughly an 8mm circle.

I like mine fine! For one thing it's larger than the factory sunroof and it opens quickly. The motor is quite noisy however. I suppose I'll address that if / when I have my headliner out at some point.

Thanks that’s awesome, glad to hear you are happy with roof. Is your seal glued to the underside of the opening lip on front and sides or to the sliding lid? Is the seal at the back fixed to lid? Do you have some pics of seals on car? Thank you.

This was bought by Carl @westoz3.0csa but he says he hasn't fitted as yet so caveat emptor .

Thanks I found those too online and I am going to ring them on Monday to find out whether they are compatible with my roof.

I think the seals are attached to the lid and thereby slide under the sheetmetal of the roof. I tried to find pictures from the day I did it but I must not have taken any. I'll take some in-situ in the morning.

I hope these are helpful:

The rubber profile I posted above does indeed seem to be the one I used along with a liberal application of silicone.

I'm pretty sure I made the corners work by cutting out triangles from the "web" of the rubber so that the "bead" would go around the corner. According to the rust in the "tray" section of the sunroof, this seal isn't keeping all of the water out. Each corner of the tray has a drain tube and they seem to be working fine. I don't hear any whistling and I haven't had any water leaking into the car. Whoever installed this system just used paint directly on metal without any sort of primer.

From memory: I bet I applied the rubber to the underside of the painted lid and then clamped on the black metal part. I can't remember if that black piece goes anywhere except along the front edge. Looks like maybe not?

(Pardon the ravages of time.) I think this configuration is different than in cars that came from the factory with sunroofs. Factory sunroof cars have some kind of roof panel above the visors, right? I've always wondered if I would want to try to add that panel but I can't imagine I'd get much benefit from it.

In conclusion: it looks like I sealed mine by using a P-profile rubber (not foam) strip on all four sides, attached with silicone, and I removed some of the web in the corners and all of the web along the back edge but I can't see that well enough without disassembling anything. This handles dirt and wind noise and limits water intrusion to an amount manageable by the drains in the corners. Here's a similar looking profile from a USA-located company, cut away the parts you don't want:
