ebay Alpina steering wheel JMHO...stupid price for a 350mm Alpina SW. I can understand if this is the bigger 380mm Alpina for the CS, but this 2002 wheel is just too small. In essence, this is a Momo Prototipo with the Alpina name on it.
 
Doesn't seem too out of line...once you get to the flat Proto's before 1980 prices are well above the new ones.
 
Seems a bit steep for a 350mm - I like how they shot it with the CSi runners even though it's not an E9 wheel... I got excited for a minute when I first saw it.
 
Not sure I agree fellas,

Visually it might look a skosh small in the E9, but this is a sport/racing wheel and the size feels great when 'driven'. I have one of these and prefer the 3 spoke look to the later 4's. The early hub's 'stepped' shape/profile also adds to its value. Wish I had known before I sold mine thinking it was 2002 specific....doh!

This wheel appears in an early Alpina CS test article, 1970.

Of course, its all personal preference
 
the same style wheel appears but I believe you will find the E9 version to be a bit larger and remember, no power steering...
 
another difference...

the correct CSL version is unique in that the ALPINA logo (bottom of center spoke) is very small and almost imperceptible- the MOMO identification is on the back if I remember correctly.

What wheel is this ? My friend has it in his LT1 Chevy powered coupe. It’s hard to tell because of all the auto body plastic dust but the spokes are black with chrome trim pieces by the leather covering. It’s a full size wheel at 16 ¾” or 17” in diameter. THANKS :p ~ John Buchtenkirch

Looks like the factory 400mm black spoke leather sport steering wheel.
 
Some clarification for early Alpina 2800 coupes. Image from Sports Car World (Oct 1970) test drive of the Alpina 2800cs.

Appears the 380mm wheels have the Alpina logo 2 holes down and 350mm have the logo after the top hole. MOMO is stamped on the back on mine. I'm sure things evolved thru the years (as all things do) creating a larger wheel option for the non-power steering cars (E3s & CSLs).

So I guess it can be said that both the 350mm & 380mm were used in the E9.

It looks to me like the euro 2002 sport wheel, it was never available here as an option. Might also be e9 euro only, I defer to Bert. The standard leather wheel for coupes has three buttons for the horn on the spokes.

Thanks Chris. My best buddy seems to think that’s the wheel that was on his brother’s 1972 TII for whatever that’s worth. It at least seems to have real leather which is more than you can say for the correct original coupe wheel. I’ve finally picked up a decent E3 wheel so if I can find a tight fitting leather cover I should be pretty happy:razz::razz::razz:, does anyone have any source suggestions ?

As ridicules as it sounds the big so called bus wheel is a nostalgic thing for me, after I sat behind one in that first coupe I looked at in Egg Harbor, NJ I sorta time tripped back to the late seventies when I was cruising my Bavaria. I know you can never really go back but I did if only for a few moments. The BMW bus wheel reminds me of the 57 Ford wheel which was very much the wheel of choice in the East coast modifieds I saw as a very impressionable youth. Yes sir, remove the horn ring, wrap the rim with black tape and install a big black padded center and you had the performance steering wheel of the day. ~ John Buchtenkirch
