If somebody really is looking for a 5speed ZF:

I recently bought a set of ATS alloys from a guy who´s been running Opels on track and rally for the last 30 years and we got talking (as allways when petrolheads meet).
There are quite a lot of interchangeable parts between Opel and BMW of the 70s. The wheels from the 6cyl Opels fit the 6cyl BMWs, the Getrag 262, 265 OD, 262CR were found in big Opels as well as big BMWs, and, that´s rigth the 5 speed ZF with those very strange ratios (apparently very popular with Opels built for rallying (the Kadett and Ascona with 2 Liter 4bangers, the ZF 5speed and a VERY short rear diff).

So if you really Lust for a 5 speed ZF (for whatever reason), go check with the Opel crowd.

Checking with the Opel crowd---

Here in the "colonies" we haven't had an O'pile around these parts for well over 25 years--our esteemed General Motors management then were petitioned by he Buick Stealers to not have them imported-they didn't want their fine Euro cars from Opel to impact the sales of big thirsty Detroit iron.

Hunting for the ZF 5 speed in an Opel car here would be as rare as finding a furcoat on a frog.

Remeber that infamous Car and Driver test of a 70s Kadett station wagon? The one with the cover shot of the brand new Opel in a breakers yard?

Might have ahd something to do with it as well... You really didn´t miss out on much with the lack of opels...
