What is the easiest/best way to removed old hardened veneer from the pine backing of the dash? Is there a chemical that can be used that will soften the veneer but won't harm the backing?
Take an X-acto knife and slide it between the veneer and the substrate at one end of the dash. You should be able to peel off long thin strips of it (almost from one end to the next) if you're good. I've done this at least three times with good success.
