Apologies if this is a particularly dumb question: I'm attempting to connect up an automatic electric antenna to the car. For the power lead, would it be correct to splice it into the hot lead for the radio?

Also, I found what looks to be a period correct radio. I can't seem to find any info on it. There's no model number or anything. Any idea what it is? It can record and has a microphone. Am guessing it was for heads of industry who needed to record notes on who to fire that day.

Any info much appreciated.

Bamberg CR. 2x5 watts. circa 73. Pretty cool. It even has a bias for the tape head. Big deal back in the days.

Yes, just use a fused splice. You're still going to have to wire up the on/up switch. I assume that model had one. Is there a blue white wire? If not, you'll need another 12v source and a switch. The antennae should have three wires. One 12v, one switch 12v., and a ground.

before my dealer installed power antenna gave up the ghost it had a switch on the steering column to go up/down. Now replaced with one that goes up/down by radio switch.

Ah right. Thanks for the replies. That must have been the stuff of a madman's dreams in 1973. It's a really elaborate configuration with lots of leads and all sorts. I can't get it to work and I don't think it has an antenna 'send' terminal. I don't want to hack into the automatic antenna I bought and attempt to modify it to semi-automatic. The radio has an E9 mounting bracket (the seller thought it was for a caravan) so I'm going to use that with a a Blaupunkt Turin M14 (pictured) which I don't think is period correct but will do until I find something more suitable. I bought it for a couple of peanuts and a washer at a yard sale.

It works fine but the antenna has risen but it won't wind down. I've connected the antenna 'send' lead to the corresponding terminal at the back of the radio and the antenna's power lead I've spliced into the power lead of the radio. Any idea what gives? I connected up another old radio I have and it does the same thing so the problem doesn't appear to be the radio. The antenna is brand new. What could I be doing wrong?

Those three wires. Do the first two you mentioned need to both be connected to the power (as well as the 'send' terminal)? Also, what amp rating do you recommend for the fuses? Sorry for the dumb questions.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for all the help. Everything works great and the car's a little closer to how it may have been originally so I feel a bit better about the world.

I've used the Turin radio as an interim until I get the Bamberg fixed but actually, I really like the clean and simple look of it and will probably stick with it. Thanks for the link Marc but the Bamberg is a real complicated monster of a radio. I think I'll save it for another car (once I get it repaired).

Hi Decampos!

I have tha same radio on my 3.3L, cause the becker grand prix stereo originally on the car lost the will to live, and after 3 expensive repairs.......here we go with the bamberg.
power antenna "send" connections are, like good chaps here told you, in the secondary part of the radio and you have to use a 5-8 amp fuse, what german called "verstaker".
If you need then more info on the radio or the wiring scheme , just let me know...I can scan what I have for you.
anyway bear in mind that, even if I am talking about early 70ies radios, bamberg is far better than turin.....way way better.....
and if you have also old DIN/RCA plug at the rear, you can buy/make yourself a aux connection for ipod......but you have microphone like me, and so you have that connection....

Hi Francesco. Thanks for getting in touch. I may well get back to you regarding information on the bamberg. It's currently completely dead but when I get a break I'll thoroughly examine it and give it an amateur service of sorts. I do think it'll require an expensive repair from a professional, we'll see. I'll post any interesting/useful developments.
