Hi All,

Anyone out there running just an electric cooling fan on only? if so, what did you use and how did you do it?

I'm thinking I will head down this path with my car

Steve

I use the 2-speed electric auxiliary fan out of a mid-90's BMW to cool my daily driver Bav engine. I removed the locked mechanical fan and placed the electric fan in front of the radiator. I use the two thermo switches (90º and 99º) from a similar car to activate the fan on low or high speed. I used a Volvo two speed fan control relay to control the on-off/speed. In reality the fan seldom comes on and only on low whenever it does. Even on the hottest days in the Sacramento I have to sit idling for several minutes for it to come on, and the temperature immediately drops enough to cause the fan to turn off.

Electric Fan

Hi Steve, Prety easy solution you should be able purchase 2 10" (300mm) Electric fans from Supercheap or Repco and you will have enough room to mount them on the front of the radiator and switch them through a relay you should have enough room to fit a 90oc temp switch into the thermostat houseing!! if you set this up properly you wont have any overheating problems!!
Cheers Warren

Yep, thanks guys, that was my thoughts, done properly I think this will be a nice Modification, I just dont like fans on the engine, the are ugly, dangerous and rob HP,
electric is the way to go

Hello,

I also run a E-fan (2500cfm) mounted in front of high-flow, re-cored radiator.
Works great.

Search 'Arctic Wind' on this board for more info.

Electric fan

When parting an E12 I once had, I remember holding the electric fan assy in my hands and thought that the coupe was front heavy enough as it was. It got tossed. Perhaps newer models have lost some weight.
