My exterior paint job is almost complete. My painter painted the inside of the hood and the front of the engine bay but the painting of the engine bay was not part of the job. We did decide to have him paint the CS Werk insulation but from the attached pictures you can see it looks bad. Wanted to get the forum input/advice

Mike

Just not a fan of the stuff… but that said it doesn’t look all that bad… just stands out because of the paint differences.

i would probably leave the insulation off. sooner or later, you are going to want to pull the engine and paint the engine bay - you can reevaluate the insulation at that point.

For best appearance it should be painted after installed on fender. The slightest movement otherwise will chip and ripple the paint.

I don't think your insulation parts look bad - it's just how they come out when painted. As @tdgray points out, I agree it does look a bit odd (out of place) as the rest of the engine bay is 'older' (Mission creep warning here....)

I've always toyed with the idea to put a thin layer of the flexible rubber magnet stuff (fridge magnets) under the insulation stuff, just for the stock appearance. It would allow for perfectly clean an painted fenders, with the option to remove them to show there is no pile of bondo below it.
