I've been working on this for a while, so just wanted to post the status for the few folks that have been following my saga.
  • Got the M30B35 completed and installed in the car. The block is from a mid-80s car (E28 or E24 I think), I had it done up at Del's machine shop here in Sacramento, had them polish the crank too. The pistons and rods are forged (CP, etc.), with a 0.5mm overbore, and used some race coated bearings for the rods and regular for the mains.
  • The B35 head is from a '90 535. Had my friend Stuart Krum (Shatz and Krum, here in Sac) do the rebuild on it, I furnished the new cam (CAT) and rockers, double springs etc. The cam has a really long duration (not even going to say how much, until I get it running!), actually got it in error, and said the hell with it, I'll give it a go.
  • New triple 45 DCOEs and the linkage from Hal Boyles' enterprise. I port matched the Korman intake to match the carbs and head, that was a challenge (had to get some assistance from Stuart). Almost impossible to find a carb manifold that matches a B35 head since most of those get F.I.
  • Heeding the sound advice from SFDon, I picked up some ACP headers, fit them (they fit great) and then sent them off to Jet Hot for ceramic coating, a little pricey but they coat both the interior and exterior, which I would like to think will give them a longer life.
  • I was able to install the engine with the bellhousing and headers attached, got it in, barely.
  • There are a bunch of other small accoutrements - JB racing lightweight flywheel, M5 clutch from Clutch Masters, larger alternator pully from Ireland, etc.
  • Lots of challenges so far, but almost ready to start it up soon, hopefully this weekend!
Will do another post once I get it running, and will also give a run down on the other work I did to the body, suspension, and drivetrain. I think I have too many variables in this equation all at once, but it's going to be a fun adventure. Here are a few pics....

That is a rather large pulley on your alternator.
Yes indeed, it's a 5" aluminum race pulley from Ireland Engineering, for reducing RPMs on the alternator and a little less strain on the crank. Kind of bought it on a whim, but it will help since I am anticipating that the engine's power band will be higher RPMs than stock. So for track days, the alternator will not have to go through as much unnecessary torture. Will have to see how this whole experiment turns out!
