When I refurbished my engine bay and rebuilt the engine I replaced the rubber motor mounts. I did not have a set of the motor mount "retainers" (items 3,4,16,17) that are circled in the picture below. Were they present on all years and just missing from mine? I also dont recall items 11 & 12.

I see that reproductions for 3,4,16 & 17 are available from CSWerk.

I don't have these on my 73 Euro and frankly think it represents over-engineering. No such equivalent animal on my E24's or my Bavaria.

I think that a few reasons exist to install them;
Engine mounts are sometimes (getting) softer allowing more flex.
Also some people install thicker radiators, reducing space.
Also some people install thicker fan packs, reducing space.

Now if you have all 3 of the above, i think your fan will dig in your newly purchased tripple core radiator when braking for that stray dog crossing the street.
Apart from 70 or 80 usd/euro for a correct/repro set (for originality aficionado's like me) , I think a 1 dollar flat steel bar +4 bolts for another dollar will do the same thing.

You want these. I know why. My 71 2800CS did not have the holes for them, but later ones apparently do. I drilled the holes. I have new motor mounts now and my old ones seemed fine but under modest braking in a left turn, bad things happened. Cheap insurance seemed like a good idea.

Hello Erik,
Me neater have seen this (Europe). According the BMW parts it was used on USA vehicles only. Strange?
