I'm interested to hear what you're using for your engine oil. I'm using Castrol 20 / 50 and wonder if there's a better alternative

No synthetics in classic cars for me

I'm a Castrol 20/50 guy as well...

My understanding of synthetics is that the compounds within do not expand into gasket material like dinosaur oil (classic oil) does and viola, leaky gaskets.

Bet that was supposed to be "Royal Purple". A neighbor likes it, but it may be the most expensive of all available oils.

I reject Castrol the Unforgiven, for going to court (and winning) the right to label oils "Synthetic" when they are not.

For me and my high mileage occasionally smoky motor, Delo 400 15W-40. A goodly amount of ZDPP for me!

I have used Mobil 1 15W-50 since the late 80's on my 2002 and now on my 2800CS that I bought in late 2008. That totals about 100k on the 2002 and roughly 3k on the CS.

YMMV of course - but if you don't have any pronounced leaks with the conventional oil - synthetics should be ok as well.

I have been using Castrol 20/50 for years also. Every few oil changes I will also add Restore which I noticed does help if you have worn piston rings or your car smokes during deceleration.

mobil 1 used to be the cats meow, but they have taken out vital additives during the last years.
what is reccomended nowadays is royal purple or redline

Valvoline Durablend

It was good to see Durablend get a good rap in the testing. I've been running Durablend in my coupe and my Tii for a while. I run 20W50 in both cars they've both done great on the Valvoline diet.
One person mentioned ZDDP (aka Zinc) which is a very important additive in flat tappet engines but so much so in the M10 & M30 engines. ZDDP was eliminated from most it is thought to fowl catalytic converters. Both Redline and Shell Rotella still use ZDDP in their oil.

No matter which oil you use, if you do not drive your coupe on a daily basis use the oil aditive "lubromolly" as it keep all rubber seals soft and plyable.
