Just wondering what engines E9 experts have seen in the Coupes over the years? I remember reading of an M5 engine in a gorgeous E9 many year ago in Roundel. I have also seen mention of quite a few 3.5 converted models in the forum . Does anyone know if the Euro E36 M3 engines have been retrofitted with the same success, or perhaps the US M3 engine?

It is considerably more work to integrate any non-M30 derived engine into the car. You'd need:
Custom motor mounts
Custom driveshaft
Custom shifter linkage
Custom transmission crossmember
Custom headers
Customized electronics

Bill Arnold put an M3 engine (not sure if it was and e46 or e36) into an E3 Bavaria for the Targa Newfoundland and it screamed ... i think he won that year too.

That would add up if you had to pay someone with the skills to complete that. Nice bench racing machine IMHO.
