Very cool. 15 years ago, I owned the M-variant of this car... Sam's Autoland in Gardena did a brilliant job repainting the Delphin Metallic.
As I recall it was a grey-market vehicle, and had a special BAR ID (similar to the VIN tag) that linked to the vehicle's federalization paperwork. I had copies of the federalization paperwork which were extremely useful during title transfer. I'd recommend asking the seller about the federalization and see if you can get copies..
Curious fact: Frank Fahey did the federalization of my M6 E24.. he also built the 3.9 - 4.0L stroker motor in my former '88 E28 M5.
