Attended a new European only car show today in Baton Rouge, met Jim (Saltydawg) from Mississippi who brought his awesome Fjord coupe. I convoyed (and provided escort cover) up from New Orleans with a friend who owns (and drives regularly) a 1957 300SL roadster:

You should see the reactions of people on the road when they realize what kind of car it is!

Here's our cars in the show's German paddock, great meeting Jim and his son and getting our coupe fix for the day (Jim's in the foreground, mine behind):

And no surprise, the SL won Best of Show:

Spectacular weather (Santa Barbara-esque) and a fun day (even my wife had a good time meeting all the nice car nuts).

by chance was there a dove gray 300 sl gullwing there?

Unfortunately not. There were newer Ferraris (coolest was a 512BB), lots of Brtish (coolest was a 1960 AC Ace), couple of Porsches and several older Mercedes. One guy had a beautiful '71 Alfa GTV. I tried it on for size and it fits me - wife not amused! Couple more pics:

Steve's being too modest here. His elegant polaris coupe won best of class. The '57, 300SL certainly deserved best of show, but if it had not been there, Steve's coupe would have won it hands down. At the awards ceremony, the event organizer said Steve's car collected more points than he has ever seen at any of the many events with which he has been associated. I was a great day; lots of beautiful cars and time spent sharing coupe stories and ideas with Steve. I have a photo with Steve and his lovely wife with the trophy cup in front of his car, but he threaten to defriend me if I posted it. BTW, she is much more supportive of his coupe-madness than he leads us to believe.

Nice of you to say but there were plenty of nice cars there including yours. Not sure about what the judges were seeing in mine or how they were scoring (it wasn't a concours per se) because mine has plenty of issues. But glad to get one for the marque. Jim, the pic stays classified ;) and yes my wife does have her moments of understanding! Will be bringing my radiator overflow tank back to polished brass - I like the way it looks on yours.
