I am assuming that these Euro indicators are compatible with US models and are sleeker because they don't protrude as much ?

You are correct. You will need to trim the inner reflector so the sleeker turn signal lense will fit. I used a dremel tool

Once you convert to a Euro indicator and make the trim for fitment
can you convert back to the original lens someday, or the original won't fit again ?

I bought a pair of the clear white lens from w+n not that long ago, but I think they are reproductions, as they do not have the BMW symbol and ?CIBIE edged on them. The amber ones look the same to me, so could be reproductions.
Saying that, I am very happy with the clear ones and they fit perfectly, I will have any problem getting the amber ones from them if I need to one day

You can always go back but you won't want to.
