Exhaust Manifold EGR Port

On my coupe I had used the original nut for the steel EGR pipe with a screw, nut and two washers in it to close the manifold opening. Worked for ten years. When I put in the new motor I thought I would improve my jury rigged cap by sealing the opening with JBWeld which worked great for about 1800 miles. On the Targa drive I started to hear an exhaust leak which got progressively louder until it sounded like a 32 Ford when under load! Dumb move on my part, it didn't withstand the heat and just a month ago I threw out my old cap.

What have others done and does anyone have a spare I could use, the fitting looks like pipe thread. Thanks

For the rear manifold, yes? If so I found a brass cap at Ace Hardware that I put sealant on and crewed it on tight. I took off all the old EGR pipes.

My car has a brass cap with a tube coming out of the center that is cut off and crimped closed.

Yet another thing I may change.

If you still have them, it may be the same size as the intake manifold egr/brake booster fittings on the front/bottom of the Zenith manifolds.

If you have no luck I can take mine off and measure it.

Thanks Steve, will have to guess on the size. BMW says AL10 whatever that means.

Back to square one. Pipe 1/4 way too small, 3/8 a hair too big. Found the old one but threads are partially stripped. Also checked flare threads, no go. Intake size is AL8, exhaust AL10 per parts book.

Chris I had the same problem on my 2002. I was able to find the factory EGR fitting and had a friend fill it in with welding rod.

I bet you can find an EGR port at a local Pick-a-Part.

I have a TIG now, so if you find one and need it filled let me know.

Chris, are you looking for the cap or the reducer piece? Or a bolt to go in where the reducer goes into the manifold? Or do you have a different setup?

I need a cap. The existing port is threaded on outside. It's almost 9/16 or 15mm which doesn't exist. I may have to just weld it up.

The larger threads on mine are M16x1.5 threads. Is that your size? You don't have a reducer piece that screws into the manifold?

I tried am M16 bolt and I thought it was too big. The cap I have used to have the pipe in it which I cut. It fits over the reducer, I forgot that piece was there.

Well, that reducer is certainly a different size then mine. Are you sure opening in manifold is only M14? My reduced end is larger than M14, M12 was way too small.

We might have different sized openings. The fitting that is in the pic is a M14 (on the right) up to what looks to be a M16 (which the cap fits on) on the left. I ordered an M14 flare bolt and will report back if it works. This would eliminate the extra cap and threads (and potential for leaks).

I just realized I am driving the coupe to San Diego on Sunday and hadn't fixed this! Had it welded closed, the large end fits into the manifold, small end would have a pipe fitting. Will swap manifolds later as Terry C gave me one without the port two weeks ago.
