I'm regularly stopping by Vintage Motorsport Group LLC in Duarte CA, and they have two CSL's in the shop undergoing restoration.

The first is an original CSL lightweight, which has the aluminum body panels and plexiglass back side and rear glass. Will be up for sale in a month or two.

The second is an original batmobile, which is being restored for someone well connected to BMW racing.

It's a blast to get a first hand look at these two fine automobiles. I'll try to post pictures next week.

Always a pleasure to have you stop by. The Verona car just left for it's new home in Belgium! It was an extremely rare car with plexi rear windows, front bumper delete, fiberglass rear, crank windows, alu hood, doors, and trunk, no sways, and no a/c. Gianni and Henric were trying to find out how many of these series 2 cars were built without the Standpacket, but the rumor was 20. I also heard there were about that same number of LHD Verona cars as well.

The Polaris car is a Bat that was ours, and now belongs to Bobby Rahal. That car is leaving today to the paint shop. It will be completely stripped to metal and then brought back to original (including full Bat livery) and ready for Monterey 2012.

We also have a beautiful Nacht Blau 3.0 CSi that will be undergoing a full restoration starting next week, and in 3-4 weeks we will have 2 more Bats here for restoration and I am not letting the cat of out of the bag yet, but one of them is a very special car!!! Stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates. We will have some old school "heavy hitters" helping on this project as well!!!

Ron:

The chrome wheel arch trims look like they are installed to act as fender flares by not just rolling the lips but cutting the fender back. Is this the case and would it allow wider tires/wider track on the rear? An attractive alternative to either full blown Group 2 or 5 wide body kits.

Great car and very trick tuner versions.

Have the rear fenders on this car been cut? Sort of looks that way. Mine are rolled lips and have the 16X8 with 225/50/16 which I think is the maximum without rubbing.

Just curious what a wider rear track would do to the cornering (using spacers or the e28 rear subframe) versus wider tires (still using the e9 rear subframe).

Apologies for the thread hijacking,

Doug

Obviously I wouldn't reccommend it on a CSL, but yes you can cut or roll the fender to get a little more tire under there and then install the wheel arches to cover it up.
