Familiar e9 on eBay

Is it inherent that a VIN tag is replaced on a Copart car? Or is the original just missing and replaced on this one (poorly stamped and incorrect background in my opinion)

its a redo. the correct tag is on the steering column. the car is a late 72 based on having the roof hook for the seatbelt. and considering that 0391 was the first '73 model the number is plausible. the firewall tag is a cheap repro that they stamped ... not like buying a good repro from Coupeking and having them stamp it.

I did a deep dive on the replacement VIN tags available several years ago. I believe I know which vender supplied the home-stamped version on this car, which the printing is far off a correct coupe tag. I also reviewed the ones available from Coupe King, which are much closer but still not 100% correct/accurate in both the printing and the vin number stamp font. Perhaps it is based on not wanting to exactly copy something that shouldn't be copied? I don't know. But a replacement is easy to spot even if the rivets are somehow accurately represented.

I did a Coupe King replacement, but kept my original. Its pretty easy to tell I have a replacement on my car.

you know, you can buy the rivets from BMW. what the printing comes down to is accurately getting the right font and the right spacing - easier said than done. i have a repro from coupeking, but i still have the original.
