I have the following setup and #3 shows some play relative to #6. I have reassembled the entire thing and have all bolts cinched down tightly and have blue loctite on them. Car runs fine with no issues/noise. Still unnerving to see the play in the fan. Anyone have thoughts.

Take it all out (fan, pulley and clutch) and make sure #3 fits snugly onto #6. Don't believe there should be any play.

Compared to the time I've been spending to replace an E30 pedal cluster bracket, this should be a piece of cake.

+1 on the rebuild. There should be no play.

Rebuild or buy a whole new fan and clutch assembly. Our fan wobbled and went into the radiator. $500 dollar flatbed ride, $400 to re-core the triple core radiator, Shop paid for the new fan and split the cost of the new clutch. Postmortem revealed the central fan nut backed out, due to a missing piece that locks the nut in position.

no play,
let me say first this drawing is a nightmare parts are not shown in their relative position,

visco 3 shpuld be mounted into fan 2, then the whole assembly goes to 6 and finally 6 is fixed to pulley 11

DQ, yes this schematic is wrong, I have everything in the correct order. The shaft of #6 is aluminum, supposed to be tapered so the fan clutch cinches down when #10 is tightened. I think it is worn down so even when #10 is tightened down, the fan clutch is loose. Clutch itself and its bearing are intact and tight. Guess I need a new #6.
