Hi folks,

Been up to Malc's today for a bit of adjustments / fine tuning to my CSi. Discovered that cheap plug leads are not a good idea, and cheap plug leads in conjunction with holed heatsink bits over the exhaust manifold is definitely not good.

All diagnosed by Doctor Malc, and temporary repairs / replacements in place and working fine just now. Previous revving problem cured. Still hearing a clicking / ticking noise under acceleration from the engine. Hopefully to be resolved when the exhaust is off.

Anybody any suggestions as to UK supplier of the heat sink thingies?

Thanks again Malc - my record of always bringing good weather and dry days at your place continues!!

No Worries Dave, glad you made it home ok, you didn't need the one telegraph pole warranty after all! (Drive past one pole and it's expired)

Hi Dave, are you refering to the aluminium pieces that bolt to the exhaust manifold? If you are then I have a pair that you can have but I'll have to dig them out. If you want them P.M. me your postal adress and I'll send them up.

Gazzol,

I believe there were two types of heatshields in use. One was a proper aluminium half cylinder shaped part which did bolt on to the exhaust manifold.

The other type was a lighter type that incorporated the gaskets for the head to manifold, and then folded over / protruded to put a layer of material between the manifold and the plugs and leads. It looked / felt fairly flimsy -almost like a modern thin asbestos type of thing.

I had the second type I have tried ( and probably failed ) to describe. It has burned through beside a couple of plugs.

Malc informs me that sometimes the more substantial type are difficult to get off without doing damage to bolts / nuts. I have not checked to see if the "new" thin type stuff is on my car due to previous nut / bolt / stud damage trying to remove the previous ones.

The second type are available new from Walloth and Nesch. I need 2 - total price 30 euros.

I will PM you my address, and am quite happy to give you something for them and/or cover the postage costs. If this Midlands Breakfast club thing ( on previous posts ) works out for my work pattern, I may be coming down and could pull off the M6 for a meet up!

Hi Dave the type I have are of the thick aluminium type, you would need to look at your manifold to see if these can be fitted. Malcs right they can be a pain to get off but if you use stainless bolt you should never have a problem getting them off again. Never the less you need to first check that you have some thread left to fasten them down with!
If you do and you want these you can have them for free, one day (in a don Corleone style) and that day may never come I may ask you to do a favour for me  .
