No, I didn’t get my rights & lefts crossed up again . Maybe 2 months ago someone posted a source for thinner spacer plates for Weber carbs so the stock air cleaner will clear the hood. I'm sure I saved that source in my favorites but for some reason I am unable to find it. I have tried several combinations of words in the search but still no luck. Could someone help me out and repost that source. Thank you much :) ~ John Buchtenkirch

JAM Engineering

The JAM Engineering conversion allows using the stock air cleaner. I don't know if JAM is still in business but maybe there are parts out there if not. The problem with the JAM conversion is it puts the air cleaner back almost to the firewall making it very difficult to fasten the back clip. Plus, I want to use a strut brace and there is no room. When my car eventually comes back from the body shop I will try to fab a strut brace that passes in front of the air cleaner instead of behind as is typical.

Have you looked at the IE strut brace - might fit with the stock air cleaner. Perhaps others could confirm.

Yep, it fits with the stock dual filter housing

You may have linkage problems if you position the Webers too low. My JAM kit causes the linkage to "over center" if the carbs are positioned too low. I called JAM (this was 20 years ago) and they advised me to use a thick phenolic heat sink to make the carbs sit higher. That solved the linkage issue.

As others have written, the problem with the air cleaner position with the JAM kit is that it's too far back - not too high.

Even with the thick spacers you have to be very careful when you adjust the JAM throttle linkage. It was a little exciting to have the pedal stick to the floor one day. The pedal resistance with the JAM kit is also very high.

On my first coupe I installed their webers and had this happen to me on my trial run - stuck wide open - a frightening experience. "Jam" is aptly named.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I was needing :-D. I have been working 14 & 16 hour days, 7 days a week to get my coupe on the road and to be honest, it’s making me a bit punchy lately. I’m sure I saved the source in my favorites on the computer but I can’t seem to find it there or in searches --- maybe I'm just too tired to focus properly. ~ John Buchtenkirch
