What does the forum recommend for a fender cover protector for engine work?

HBChris had some custom ones made and he gave me one as a gift when I visited HB. Done for the E9 specifically.
A fleece blanket and 2 large magnets with handles is what I used. Flexible, as in they can be used for many other things as well.

AND OVERALLS. I squeezed by cars in my garage and the hammer loop on my coveralls caught on my side grill and ripped it off!!
