Question for anyone using a spin-on oil filter conversion.
What brand and size filter are you using.
I am looking for a filter that won't blow up like the Fram that dumped most of my oil seconds after start-up one moderately cold morning.

Strange -- I can't find an equivalency chart online. They do have charts (paper) at NAPA and Autozone, though. NAPA sells a plain Jane filter equivalent to Fram's HP2 as well a "Gold" version that has more baffling or something. Costs more, too, 'natch, but I couldn't tell the difference after changing the oil with either one. STP sells one through Autozone, which is suspiciously painted the exact same color as the NAPA filter, plus the STP sticker.

No blow outs with any of them, but I never had a Fram blow out either. The lore scared me off them.

On the plus side for Fram filters, just installed one on my Corolla and they now come with some kind of grippy coating on the bottom making hand tightening alot easier.

I too have heard of the Fram filters popping on startup. It used to be a common occurrence with the big-motor VW crew, they fitted large oil pumps to their motors...

I had a gage on my VW van for a while, and one on my '72 tii. The gage pegged (over 80 psi) at startup, down to 10 at idle when warm. Sheesh.

You've not said what viscosity range oil you're using. You may not have tried another filter of any make. Either of these might solve you problem.

I use Fram on my 120,000 mile '88 Corolla without issues and the grippy coating is nice to have.
