For cars this old, the "jack it up and spin the wheels" test often returns false results. Most of these LSD's were 25% lock, and the clutches are worn. All joking aside, the hillbilly burnout test is more reliable. My car will leave twin black stripes on command, but jack it up and spin one wheel and the other turns the opposite direction. I've had the diff apart, so I know it's LSD.
On early cars like the e9, most of the time the diff was NOT marked with a painted "S", that's more common after about 1974. The S is stamped in the diff case, on the right side somewhere above the ratio markings, with a stamp about 0.5" tall.
