Box new, BMW original, seat mount fire extinguishers. The cradle and the strap that holds the bottle to it are included. The picture of the mounted extinguisher is DQ's car fire extinguisher.JPG dq.jpg $260 shipped in the lower 48

This has been bothering me all day. And I feel I should address the issue. I think it is in bad taste, insulting as well, for someone to show an Ebay item for Approx $70 versus the $260 I am asking for what is apparently the same part. What I am selling are the original BMW fire extinguishers new in the box. The ones on Ebay are generic. The Ebay seller is a BMW dealer in England and they can not get the proper extinguishers that I have. On top of that they won't ship to the USA.

Bert,

It sounds like Rek and you are in conversation, but I wouldn't be me if I couldn't keep my mouth shut...

I don't think this one is black and white. I agree that it isn't particularly constructive to post competing offers on indivual goods being sold. However, it is not out of line for Rek to question a product being sold by a vendor. I can buy a CSL style valance from Coupe King, Zaprace, Coupe Guy, or VSR1. It is not unreasonable for a myself or another member to publicly or privately question the difference in price and quality of said item if the Vendor is advertising here (for free I might add). In this case, like it or not you are a vendor. Let's be honest - you aren't selling personal e9-specific parts and you don't happen to have an old fire extinquisher that you no longer need. You are sourcing these things in Europe and selling them at a profit, as a service to members. You have already established yourself as a vendor selling fabricated parts as well. There is certainly nothing wrong with that, I do the same (well I'm trying anyway).

Members are paying a convenience tax for a mildly functional eye-candy item. One can buy a functionally equivilent extinquisher at Walmart for $20. Rek asked a straight forward question- "Is the part the same?". Clearly the UK extinquishers are not the same. It is understood that one is paying a premium not only for the BMW logo, but to ship a pressurized device to AZ, then out to the buyer's address. If an internet savvy member wants to hunt around Europe for one of these at wholesale and convince the seller to deliver stateside via cargo ship, more power to them. Until then, keep on trucking

All fire extinguisher orders must ship via ground transport. Pressurized extinguishers are considered hazardous materials and can not be shipped via the US. Postal Service (and therefore, APO or FPO addresses). Companies such as UPS and Fed-Ex require the shipper to be Hazmat certified.

Exactly, and Bert is unable to ship to the UK so Rek has done non US members a bit of a favour.
Just saying.

I agree with how you presented your answer and stand corrected. No offense to anyone was meant.

i agree with you, Bert
generally speaking i am not in favour of showing in any way a similar offer/item in other member's thread
it is just simple and clean to open a new advert, or whatever other way, off topic, general questions,...
IMHO it is possible to offer a similar item when the initial item has been sold as others might be in the waiting list, but anyway, set things clear and clean in separate threads brings always a better understanding

Hey guys, the same has happened to me many times on this forum. I have posted used items with prices lower than non original new ones that are selling for a bit more. Ex ample are the new Heyco tools. I have listed items and get the same replies from members who are not interested in the item whatsoever. If a member has a car that is most often all original and the investment could go anywhere from $25 to $100 and wants to buy used original he will pay the price. I have seen requests for a used chrome trim screw, rather than the available new one at any hardware store in the world. This is just how members react to listing making them feel that they are doing members a favor.

Perhaps there should be a new section in the classified entitled "Spotted" which would seem to cover most of the gripes.

Are there any other members of the Jury to posit their opinion? All we need is for another six to come forward and we can record a verdict.

Bert and I resolved this issue by communicating privately without the need for further comment. This thread had reached a natural conclusion sometime ago.
