Good afternoon all,

Just hoping someone could suggest the best way to put on the chrome trim on the door that hold the window rubber, i wanted to avoid scratching the paint when i push it on, so it doesn't turn into a rust point.

She has just had a fresh new paint job so would like to keep it looking smick for as long as possible  .

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Hamish

unfortunately the system includes some sharp bits that aim to bite the sheet metal, so the only way it is maybe coating with some grease, but it seems impossible to solve, it will become a rust point, yes

You have 2 choices, break or cut the spear tips off the molding clips and then inject the channel of the clips with auto body caulking to glue the molding on. You may have to use duct tape to hold the molding in place till the caulking sets up. I’d probably use 3M fast & firm caulking.

Your second choice is to leave the molding clip spear tips intact and load up the channels of the clips with Rustoleum or POR 15 and push the moldings on when the paint is wet. Using that method I’d run a piece of 2” masking tape along the top of the door in case any paint dribbles out. I’d mark on the tape where the clips touch and also wet the upper door edge with paint in that area. Again, this requires a wet assembly to insure a self-sealing wound to the doors sprayed on paint.

I wish someone had been so careful when my coupe was repainted, the upper edges of the door skin & upper reinforcement have suffered , the bottom of my doors are near mint . ~ John Buchtenkirch
