Hi Is there a thread or advice on refitting the screens front and back. Is there a tool or rope method???

Also where can I get the chrome piece that joins the two separate chrome trims that go into the rubber???

cheers

The small cup is 51317740158, around $10 from BMW.

Place rubber on windshield, insert metal finishing trim, lubricate mounting channel and insert rope into channel, place windshield on body, hold in place and push while pulling rope from inside. Most installers use one rope from top to bottom on left side and another for the right side, that way you are pulling towards the A pillars as you seat the glass.

Ideally, this is a three person job. One inside pulling the rope and making sure the rubber lip stays seated, and one person at each corner of the window - pushing, pulling, wacking, swearing, etc.

A search on this site should turn up a few more detailed posts.

I was last quoted about $750 for a windshield. At that price, and with the risk, I'd have a pro do it with the understanding that if it cracked, he'd be responsible.

But that's just me, out here in the middle of the pond. Just had said mobile pros R&R my '93 325iC windshield (bonded in place) and though I could perhaps now do it if I had to, their abilities and tools and made the job a ton-load easier than if I had to do it myself.

Yes it's DO-able, but is it DESIRE-able?
