The door skins to my CSL are in good condition themselves but the bottom part of the steel door frames are badly rusted and I am in the process of "splicing in" replacement panels per Walloth and Nesch. The panels fit well. I have been able to carefully peel back the door skin from around the bottom rail of the door and for about 75 mm up the sides but I am wondering how best to isolate the aluminium from the steel when re-fixing the skins. The original material used in this location appears to be some sort of plastic or rubber "U" section (now perished). Would duct-tape do the trick?

Any reliable advice would be gratefully received.

Double sided trim tape of the thinest variety ( type used to apply belt trim, emblems) it will stay in place while you recrimp the seam. Seal the area afterwards except for the drain areas. Typical Karman detail- curved skin, right angle frame ;perfect cavity for rust. Also, the glass scraper/ fuzzy- steel backing tends to rust, falls down in the same area. Check them.

Duct tape tends to disentigrate. In the 50's they used asphaltic paint. Just make sure you go back over and seam seal the bottom inside.

Just recently did all this on a Porsche.
