Flaring a brake line, HELP

I was changing out the metal lines calipers and the brake hoses on the front brakes and one of the hex heads of the line that comes from the master cylinder round right off.

Now just short of replacing the entire line from the master cyl. to the passenager side is there a way I can cut the existing flare off, get a new seal/screw and re-flare the existing line.

Does anyone know what the flare is called ? Double or Bubble or what ever. It does not look like a standard type flare.

Also if you know of a tool to do this where can one be had ??

Bubble flair, as found on old VW. You'll need the right tool available from a variety of suppliers. It's a straightforward two step process. Original was 8mm tube, but 5/16" can be substituted if you need to replace completely. If you can find a local shop that works on old VW's, I'm sure they could make one up for you.

If you want, I could supply you with a length with flares and fittings installed. You'd have to let me know the length from tip to tip. You would have to bend it. $40 includes packing and shipping. Pay only if completely satisfied.

Hack: Would it be possible to file down the head 1mm? I had similar brake line issue (to caliper) and a mechanic suggested filing down the brake line hex head from 11mm to 10mm. Worked.
 
Rusty: that is a darn good idea! I will need to do that on one of the fittings on a Datsun that I have.

Bubble

A bubble flare is not the same as a double flare. Bubble flairs are indigenous to early German cars. BMW, VW, Porsche & Mercedes. I ran an import auto parts store for a good while, we use to stock steel lines with bubble flairs. They came in various lengths from 6" to 72". You could also buy line coupler and join 2 lines together to make a line that was close in length. As long as the overall length was close you could change the routing a bit and stow the additional line.
